G2 – Star Testing

Students will take the STAR “Reading” test during class time.

G2 – Mother’s day project

PART 1

Students will choose a poem about Mothers to type into Microsoft Word.

PART 2

Students will draw a picture in Tuxpaint to insert into the Word document.

Primary – Music Video Recording

Stage 2

Today is Stage 2 of the Music Video project. The students did a great job deciding, searching, and saving the pictures to be used in the video.

The students will now move on to organizing the pictures in Movie Maker. In the mean-time, each group will record their portion of the video in front of the green screen. Each group will be responsible for:

  • operating the video camera
  • holding the lyrics (to be read by those in front of the green screen)
  • lip-syncing their parts

Primary – Create a Music Video!

Stage 1

The intial stage of this project will involve searching for images to go with the music video. Students will use the following site to find their images:

Students will follow a 4 step process:

  1. Read - read a line from the song lyrics
  2. Decide - what types of pictures will best illustrate this line?
  3. Search - use keywords to find the pictures
  4. Save - save the picture into a shared location on the network.

G2 – Word processing – Word wrap

Project planning

Students will start off by deciding on a song to create a video for an upcoming project.

Lesson

Discuss with students the concept of word wrap. Demonstrate by using the whiteboard and the projector.

Demonstrate opening the template file, and choosing “Save As”. Review the difference between “Save” and “Save As”.

Activity

Students will type a short story in Microsoft Word while keeping in mind the concept of word-wrap. The Microsoft Word document will be pre-formatted into 2 columns.

Students will complete the following sentence, and add any other sentences to tell their story.

“The funniest thing that ever happened to me…”

Students who finish with extra time will create a picture to insert into their story.

G2 – Tuxpaint house

Students will use the shape, line, fill, and stamp tools to decorate a house in Tuxpaint.

Emphasis will be on creating the shapes in a specific order so that they are properly stacked. Also, emphasis will be placed on neatness and fixing mistakes.

Students will use the shape, line, and fill tools to create a nature scene in Tuxpaint.

Overview

Students will use the shape tools in Tuxpaint to create 1 form of transportation.

Assignment Detail

  • Include as much detail as possible without cluttering the canvas.
  • Draw a background if you have time (road, ground, sky, sun).
  • Include your name on the project.
  • Don’t forget to click “Save”.

Extra Time

When students finish, if time permits have them work on a different form of transportation.

World Math Day

Setup

  • Write the activity on the whiteboard.
  • Write the web address on the whiteboard:  http://www.worldmathday.com
  • Write the windows login/password on the board.
  • Students meet on the colored mat.
  • Tell students they will be practicing for world math day which is on March 3rd.
  • Hand out the students’ world math day individual login sheets.
  • Dismiss students to their seats.

Activity

  • Students should stay seated and use quiet voices when talking.
  • Students can have free time for the last 10 minutes of class.

  • Students can go to any of the links in the “Internet Shortcuts” folder on the desktop.
  • OR
  • Students can doodle anything in Tuxpaint.
  • OR
  • Use any of the installed programs on their computers.

G2 – World math day practice
