Students will use Microsoft Word to highlight & format text.

Special keys that will be reviewed are:

  • space bar
  • backspace
  • enter

G1 – Mother’s day project

Lesson area

Students will begin class by brainstorming adjectives that describe their mothers.

Activity

Students will use wordle.net to create word clouds using the words that were brainstormed.

Students will choose different options to change the size, direction, color, and font of the word clouds.

Students will use the shape, line, and fill tools in Tuxpaint to create a nature scene.

Grade 1 – Tuxpaint – Space

Overview

Students will use the shape tools in Tuxpaint to draw a picture of items found in space.

Details

  • Students should use the circle tool when drawing planets.
  • The whole canvas should be filled in with color (no white space).
  • Encourage the students to be creative when thinking of items to add to their picture.
    • rocket ships, shooting stars, milky way, etc.

World Math Day

Setup

  • Write the activity on the whiteboard.
  • Write the web address on the whiteboard:  http://www.worldmathday.com
  • Write the windows login/password on the board.
  • Students meet on the colored mat.
  • Tell students they will be practicing for world math day which is on March 3rd.
  • Hand out the students’ world math day individual login sheets.
  • Dismiss students to their seats.

Activity

  • Students should stay seated and use quiet voices when talking.
  • Students can have free time for the last 10 minutes of class.

Free Time Options

  • Students can go to any of the links in the “Internet Shortcuts” folder on the desktop.
  • OR
  • Students can doodle anything in Tuxpaint.
  • OR
  • Use any of the installed programs on their computers.

Use the paint brush, line, and eraser (when needed!) to create a name tag like the following:

Students will use the pencil & paint bucket tools to create a color splash.
